NW Atlanta residents to hold rally to save Bank of America branch

Posted: Updated:

State Sen. Vincent Fort revealed a serious issue affecting residents in northwest Atlanta Tuesday.

He showed CBS Atlanta News hundreds of Bank of America foreclosure documents, specifically in the 30318 zip code, from the past year.

"This is just absolutely stunning," Fort said.

He said not only is the bank doing very little to maintain the properties, now they're planning to close a branch on Donald Lee Hollwell Parkway and pull out of the community.

"We think that BOA first and foremost should put closing this branch on hold until we can have a full discussion with the community about Bank of America's bad behavior in this very community," Fort said.

Fort said many of the homeowners in the community are senior citizens and closing the only branch in the area would do more harm than good.

"I'm concerned about my seniors being able to get to a bank. They want us to go to Howell Mill. There are people that can't get there," homeowner Beverly Blackmon said.

"We don't want them to go. We want them to listen to us and be a part of the community," homeowner Susie Clinkscales said.

The community will hold a rally Wednesday night at 7 p.m., in an attempt to stop the bank branch from closing.

The event will be held at the Word of God Ministries on Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway.
