Officers said they raided a Dalton apartment complex and seized 19 marijuana plants estimated to be worth at least $100,000.

Dewayne Edward Caldwell, 24, a resident at Huntington Place Apartments, was arrested and charged in the case.

The incident happened shortly before 5 a.m. on Wednesday during a welfare check of another resident.

As they began to leave, officers said they could smell marijuana coming from another apartment.

They spoke with Caldwell and then obtained a search warrant to search the apartment.

The following day, investigators said they found a large growing operation inside.

Marijuana was being dried and officers also found scales, water pipes and a variety of light  and fertilizers, according to police.

Caldwell was charged with felony marijuana trafficking, felony possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, felony possession of marijuana and misdemeanor obstruction of a law officer.
