ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -

The Atlanta Police Department hosted the premiere showing of its video It Gets Better to take a stand with the gay and lesbian community. The event took place Wednesday night at the Phillip Rush Center in northeast Atlanta.

The video features members of the police department, some of whom are gay and lesbian. The project was created to show teenagers who are coming out to their families that their lives can be happy despite the challenges they may face.

"There's so many young teens in the United States who are gay who just don't know what to do and they need some leadership. And, that's one of the roles of the Atlanta police is to present options for people and a place they can look for guidance," said Sgt. Michael Graham.

Chief George Turner provides an introduction to the video.
