Fourth metro Atlanta man arrested for child pornography

Posted: Updated:

We're learning about another child pornography case in metro Atlanta, its the fourth case since late October.

Federal agents said Jerry Lanier purchased sexually explicit DVDs showing boys as young as 8 years old, lasciviously displaying their genitals.

It all started with the 2010 raid of a foreign company that sold the child pornography to people here in the United States. The United States postal inspector traced some of those sales to men in Atlanta.

All four men arrested worked in jobs that put them in close contact with young children.

Federal authorities raided a home on Roswell Street in Smyrna on Tuesday. They said Jerry Lanier purchased child pornography over the internet.

The criminal complaint said Lanier worked as a trumpet instructor at the University of West Georgia. The complaint also said Lanier offered private music lessons to children beginning at age 7.

"He still taught music to middle school and high school children," said Assistant United States Attorney Paul Jones.

Jones is prosecuting Lanier's case, and three other men accused of buying child porn.

Federal agents arrested Stanley Johnson who worked as a transportation coordinator at the Cobb County School District. Johnson also volunteered for a vacation bible school at the Mableton First Baptist Church.

Authorities raided Johnson's Mableton home and found photos of naked young boys in addition to DVDs he purchased on the web.

"These tended to be videos of young boys between the ages of 8 and 14," said Jones. "These boys were for the most part naked and the filming was for the most part on their genitals."

Several weeks ago in October, authorities said a janitor at the Paideia School, Josh Ensley, videotaped high school students while they used the bathroom. Ensley is also alleged to have purchased child porn DVDs over the internet.

Then, just a few days later, federal agents arrested an instructor who worked at the Pace Academy named William Villemez. Investigators said Villemez also purchased child porn over the internet.

Jones pledges that the federal government does not tolerate the production, distribution or possession of child pornography.

"They are very difficult cases," said Jones. "They can be a little bit tolling, but at the end of the day the reward is greater knowing that somebody is going to be held accountable for what they're doing. "

Lanier was released from federal custody after appearing before a magistrate judge, but his movements are severely restricted. Lanier is required to wear an ankle monitor at all times, and he's also barred from access to the internet.
