ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -

The Braves struck up a good time with military families during a private holiday party Saturday.

Players, coaches and team leaders joined in the fun at Midtown Bowl. Nearly 40 military members and their families enjoyed an afternoon of food, prizes, and a friendly bowling competition against the Braves.

"We are here to enjoy the festivities with the Atlanta Braves. They've been doing this for the past seven years and we look forward to this, it means a lot especially during the holiday season," Jimmy Bellamy Jr., a chaplin with the Georgia Army National Guard said.

The Braves organized the event with the Braveheart Initiative. It's a program that helps veterans returning from war get screened and treated for post-traumatic stress disorder.
