Atlanta icon Jesse Hill Jr. dies

ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -

Jesse Hill Jr., a prominent Atlanta businessman and civil rights leader, has died. He was 86.

Hill was the former CEO of Atlanta Life Insurance Company, and the first black president of the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce.

Hill, a native of St. Louis, was also an advisor to Martin Luther King.

He also founded the Atlanta Inquirer newspapers, and in 2008 was inducted into the International Civil Rights Walk of Fame.

Willie A. Watkins funeral home in Atlanta is in charge of the arrangements.
