School administrators in Clayton County are reviewing their safety procedures following Friday's mass shooting in Newtown, CT.
One new feature is intruder drills. Clayton County school officials told CBS Atlanta News on Monday that in an emergency, everyone needs to know what to do.
Interim Clayton County Schools Superintendent Luvenia Jackson would not go into specifics, but stressed that this week, Clayton County schools will conduct drills to make sure everyone is prepared in case a gunman enters one of the district's schools.
"It is so crucial that everyone understand his or her role," Jackson said.
Clayton County Schools Manager of Safety and Security Raynard Walker believes the murder of 26 students and teachers in Newtown will force schools to better prepare for these types of situations.
"It's going to be the new reality," Walker said. "From Columbine to last week, we are going to have to make sure (the) children are ready for whatever situation that may occur."
The Clayton County School District plans to practice intruder drills until the holiday break.
