Cartersville police investigate car wash homicide

CARTERSVILLE, GA (CBS46) -

Police are looking into whether the shooting death of a man at a Cartersville car was the result of a robbery attempt.

Captain Mark S. Camp said officers responded to a report of a man lying on the ground next to a pickup truck at the Sun-Glo Car Wash just after 11 p.m. Sunday.

Investigators found Randal Statler Jr., 28, of Cartersville deceased from one gun shot wound. Witnesses told police Statler had been "mudding" with family earlier in the day and had been cleaning the mud from his truck.

Camp said police believe Statler was the victim of a robbery, but it was unclear how much money, if any, had been taken.

Police have not released any information on possible suspects in the case.
