Health inspectors close cafe in Fulton County building

FULTON COUNTY, GA (CBS46) -

There is nothing appetizing about a recent report by the Fulton County Environmental Health Department on a local cafe.

Health inspectors shut down Chamber's Café inside the Fulton County Government Center on Monday because of serious health violations.

"I mean that's bad, I don't really know what to think," visitor Ashley Ashford said.

Chamber's Café failed the surprise inspection with 59 points and a "U" for unsatisfactory.

The report said chicken salad and turkey were at unsafe temperatures. It also stated that there was mold on food in the freezer and roaches were seen.

"I have personally seen roaches in this one and the one across the street and just general uncleanliness around the equipment and the food area," said Fulton County employee Carla Broyles.

Chamber's Café has had a roach problem dating back to April and they haven't received an "A" on a health inspection in more than eight months.

CBS Atlanta News asked Broyles how many times she had seen roaches at the cafe.

"At least three," Broyles said.

County officials said American Food Management operates Chamber's Café and it's not the first time they've been forced to close the facility for health violations.

CBS Atlanta News asked Fulton County Commissioner Robb Pitts if it was time to find a different contractor to run the restaurant.

"Actually, it's past time because if the scores are indicative of what's been happening there, it's way, way past time and I would hope that we would move quickly to replace this operator," he said.
