One person is dead and three others are seriously injured after a single car crash in Cobb County Thursday.
The Cobb County Police Department identified the deceased victim as Michael A. Rogers, 18, of Atlanta.
The deadly wreck happened on South Gordon Road at Songwood Drive in Austell shortly after 5 a.m. Investigators say they have not determined who was driving the silver 1991 Saturn SL2 when it crashed.
The car was traveling eastbound on South Gordon Road approaching Songwood Drive, according to investigators. As the driver began to negotiate a right hand curve in the road, the vehicle crossed the double yellow line.
It struck a concrete curb on the westbound side of the roadway, which sent the car into a spin heading eastward. The Saturn then exited the roadway and struck a tree before coming to a stop in the front yard of a residence.
Crash investigators were not able to determine who was the driver and where the three passengers were sitting in the car.
Thomas Dawson, 18, of Atlanta, David C. Shepard Jr., 18, of Austell, and Najhel J. Fuller, 19, of Smyrna were all ejected from the car. All three were in serious condition, according to police.
Dawson and Shepard were taken by ambulance to the Atlanta Medical Center. Fuller was transported to Grady Hospital and Rogers was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators believe that alcohol and speed may have been contributing factors in the crash, and anyone with information about it is asked to call 770-499-3910. Copyright 2012 WGCL-TV (Meredith Corporation). All rights reserved.
