After an intense investigation Shane Clifton Collett, age 40 of 678 Yarbrough Mill Road Griffin, Georgia was arrested for the death of 9 year old Skyler Dials.

Collett has been charged with murder, kidnapping and concealing a death and is currently being held in the Spalding County Sheriff's Office Detention Center without bond.

Spalding County Sheriff Wendell Beam said Skylar Dials was found around 2 a.m. roughly 200 to 300 yards behind her home on Yarbrough Mill Road in a wooded area.

"We do not know what the cause of death was," Beam said. "This is tragic it ended this way. There were more than 100 people searching for her."

According to Wendell, Skylar left her home around 11 a.m. Friday morning to go to a friend's house. She took a 30 to 40-yard path through the woods that she'd used many times. She never arrived at the friend's house.

"Her body was found opposite of where the neighbor's home is.

Beam did not say who found the body or how long she'd been there.

Searchers went door to door, and searched the woods with K-9 units to try and find Skylar.  The Georgia State Patrol used a helicopter equipped with heat sensors to try and find her in the woods, but could not locate her.

Beam said Skylar's mother had to be transported to the hospital after learning of her daughter's death.

The Spalding County Sheriff's Office and Georgia Bureau of Investigation are processing the scene overnight and into Saturday morning to find any evidence as to how Skylar died.

According to a neighbor, who did not want to be identified, Skylar was a very smart, fun-loving girl who used to have sleepovers with his daughter.

Walking away from the crime scene the man said to CBS Atlanta's Mike Paluska, "How do I tell my 10-year-old daughter her best friend is dead?"
