Georgia sheriff offers Internet tracking software

Posted: Updated:

The Paulding County Sheriff's Office is offering parents a free computer software program to help keep tabs on the types of content their children are seeing on the Internet.

The sheriff's department is offering the ComputerCOP software program to help parents monitor browsing history and record images being displayed on computer monitors. The program also scans for certain images and keywords related to crime, pornography and drug use. Officials say parents can also enter their own set of keywords.

The software was given to the sheriff's office by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, which used a federal grant to fund creating the software.

Authorities say they're offering the program in hopes that parents will speak with their children on the dangers of Internet.
