Atlanta unemployment down again in November

ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -

Metro Atlantans are continuing to head back to work, according to the Georgia Department of Labor.

GDOL announced a decline in unemployment in Atlanta of two-tenths of a percentage point Thursday. The jobless rate stood at 8 percent for November, down nine-tenths of a percentage point from a year ago.

Commissioner Mark Butler attributed the improvement to job growth and fewer layoffs. Butler said there were 12,300 new jobs in metro Atlanta this month, primarily in the fields of trade, transportation and warehousing.

The metro Athens area had the lowest area jobless rate at 6.2 percent, while metro Dalton had the highest at 11 percent.

Across the state, unemployment was also down two-tenths of a percentage point to 8.5 percent in November. This is a full point lower than Georgia's jobless rate in November 2011.
