Sandy Springs home heavily damaged by fallen tree

SANDY SPRINGS, GA (CBS46) -

The Sandy Springs Fire Department said weather is likely to blame for a massive tree falling on and partially destroying a home in Sandy Springs around 4 a.m. Thursday.

The tree crashed through the roof of the home, coming down overhead of at least one bedroom and cracking a support beam all the way down to the basement, according to a firefighter on scene.

Everyone in the home was asleep, but none were injured.

Firefighters said the ground had been saturated from several days of steady rain, and the high winds likely helped knock over the tree, which appeared to be several decades, if not 100 years old.
