Hall County School District focused on security

HALL COUNTY, GA (CBS46) -

The new year brings a new focus on security for Hall County officials.

The massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary school in Newtown, CT forced Hall County officials review their security procedures.

"It is absolutely critical that we take a look at everything we do in terms of ensuring the safety of our boys and girls within the Hall County School District," Superintendent of Schools Will Scofield said.

To further bolster security efforts, Scofield said Wednesday every school now has a safety coordinator.

The superintendent also pointed out all middle and high schools have resource officers.

"When a boy or girl walks through the front door, or when mom or dad puts them on the school bus, we want to make sure we've done everything possible to ensure that they are safe," Scofield said.

The superintendent told CBS Atlanta schools leaders will conduct frequent reviews of their plans to make sure they are current.
