Gwinnett County family under attack by ants

A Gwinnett County family says they are under attack - by ants!

Armed with a can of bug spray, Charles Staples is defending his home from tiny black invaders.

"It's pretty creepy. It's pretty gross," said Rosandra Staples, Charles' Staples wife.

The Staples said ants have overrun their Las Palmas apartment in Norcross.

"We're not talking a couple of ants. I've probably seen about 1,000 ants in one spot before," said Rosandra Staples.

"To see ants where you prepare food is really, really disturbing," said Charles Staples.

After numerous complaints to management, the Staples were moved to a recently remodeled unit, but they say the invasion continued.

"I've actually seen quite a bit in the pantry, I've seen them come out of the dishwasher, I've seen them running through our medicine chest," said Charles Staples.

The Staples said they've been forced to take matters into their own hands because management hasn't effectively addressed the problem.

"We might have had insecticide treatments maybe once in this apartment. There are several holes in the wall that could be caulked or things that can be done to minimize this problem," said Charles Staples.

CBS Atlanta News' Bernard Watson tried talking to property management about the situation, but he was kicked off the property. The Staples are fed up.

"I want to see them correct the problem and not just put masking tape over something that is broken and actually go in and correct the problem," Rosandra Staples said.

"These people they don't have to deal with the problem so they go home and they go about their regular lives, but we wake up every day and we are searching for ants, searching for where they might be," said Charles Staples.
