Brazen thieves break into Georgia Power office

FAYETTEVILLE, GA (CBS46) -

Fayetteville police are looking for at least two suspects who brazenly broke into the Georgia Power office early New Year's Eve morning.

Surveillance video shows two men wearing ski masks breaking into the Goodwill Donation Center next to the power office. Police say the suspects then cut a hole in the sheetrock and entered the office.

Detectives said what is more surprising is that the thieves stayed inside the office for three hours as they tried to break into a safe.

"We've had burglaries before where they break in through another business in the same manner but those guys are usually in and out as quickly as possible," said Detective Mike Whitlow. "These guys stayed for three hours. Brazen is a good word for it. They were in no particular hurry."

Whitlow said the burglars are likely males since they hauled a safe outside, took the money out, then returned the safe to the office.

"The safe was extremely heavy, probably about a thousand pounds," said Whitlow. "They would need considerable strength to move that safe, which they did."

While the suspects were wearing masks, police said they hope someone will recognize their walk or other mannerisms and identify them.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Fayetteville Police Department at 770-461-4441.
