Senate committee meets on ethics rules

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA (AP) -

A special Senate committee on ethics will meet to discuss rules ahead of an expected larger debate on the issue in the General Assembly.

The group of lawmakers will meet late Wednesday morning and are expected to discuss the rulemaking authority of the state's ethics commission and how local officials file campaign expense reports.

The discussion may provide some glimpses into a larger debate over changes in ethics rules that may be coming in the Statehouse.

The group of lawmakers includes the new Senate president pro tempore-elect David Shafer and Joshua McKoon, who has pushed for a cap on lobbyist gifts to lawmakers.

Senate leaders recently suggested they would consider such a cap.
