ATLANTA (CBS46) -

A convicted felon has been arrested for shooting an Atlanta police officer in the face Friday evening.

Frank Nance, 20, is charged with aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and cocaine possession.

Police say Nance is the man who shot Officer Reginald Robinson during a drug investigation in Southwest Atlanta.

Residents and shoppers in the Southwest Atlanta neighborhood where the shooting happened had the wounded officer in their thoughts Saturday.

"I feel sorry for the officer and his family," said Wayne Freeman who shops in the area.

"Whatever happens I just hope the best for everyone. If the guy was wrong, I hope that justice is served," said Daniel Kelly, who lives nearby.

Investigators told CBS Atlanta News that Robinson remains at Grady Memorial Hospital, where he is alert and responsive.

As for the status of Nance's injuries, which are visible in his recent mug shot, CBS Atlanta News was told officers can't comment because it's part of the overall investigation.

Robinson is expected to survive his injuries.
