Two children taken in Fulton County carjacking found safe

Posted: Updated:

A family is relieved after two young girls who were sleeping soundly in the back of their stepfather's jeep were found shortly after the Jeep was taken at gunpoint in Fulton County.

The girls' aunt, Marina Grant, described what happened Sunday night when the girls' stepfather was approached by a man in a neighborhood near Bethsaida Road at Halligan Pointe Road.

"The man got him out the car at gunpoint," Grant said. "So he thought fast. Either he sit there and argue back and forth with the guy and have him shoot in the car. Or, just get out like the man asked."

Grant said the stepfather told her the armed man had to have known there were children in the car he was taking.

"He was screaming to him, 'My babies are in the car, my babies are in the car,' and he just kept riding," Grant said.

The girls were found a few hours later after a neighbor spotted the Jeep in front of her home, running, with its doors open. The girls had woken up and were crying. Now Grant and the girls' mother want to thank the neighbor who found them.

"She's an angel. She's a blessing. She's an angel in disguise," Grant said. "She just don't know how much of an angel she was to those two babies."

The man who is believed to have taken the car has not been found. The girls' mother, Otura Lista, hopes police catch him.

"He's just disgusting. He's a heartless person," Lista said. "I don't understand why someone would do something like that."

The girls, meanwhile, have no idea what happened - they were asleep for most of the time they were missing.
