DeKalb County parents learn consequences of school probation

Posted: Updated:
DEKALB COUNTY, GA (CBS46) -

Parents in DeKalb County are learning what the consequences would be if the district loses its accreditation.

They attended a meeting in Stone Mountain on Tuesday night where a speaker from Clayton County talked about losing accreditation there in 2008.

The county lost thousands of students and jobs, and property values dropped.

The accrediting agency, Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, reinstated the district in 2011.

Right now, DeKalb County schools are on probation.

Some parents are petitioning to remove the board.
