Pastor of MLK church to deliver inaugural prayer

Posted: Updated:

The senior pastor of the church where the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. preached is to deliver the closing prayer during the presidential inaugural prayer service at the Washington National Cathedral.

The Rev. Raphael Warnock of Ebenezer Baptist Church will offer the prayer Tuesday during the service that is designed to bestow interfaith blessings at the start of a new presidential administration.

President Barack Obama, Vice President Joe Biden and their families are set to attend the service.

The interfaith service will feature prayer, readings, and musical performances.

Inaugural prayer services have been held at the cathedral since President Franklin Delano Roosevelt's first inauguration in 1933. President Bill Clinton was an exception, holding both his inaugural prayer services at the Metropolitan AME Church, a historic black church in downtown Washington.
