Staffing agency that placed workers in bogus jobs out of office

Posted: Updated:

Several construction workers from Georgia say they got duped by a local staffing agency that promised jobs.

Several local construction workers answered an ad for work on Craigslist. They said a Marietta staffing agency called Everything Staffing set them up with jobs in Columbia, MO.

"They can't believe this happened here in their town," a stranded worker said.

But when they got to Missouri, there was no work and some were left stranded with no money to get home.

Shalonda Harris works for a different business down the hall from Everything Staffing and said she noticed something fishy at the agency on Thursday.

"They came today and had a bag and the next thing you know they were gone. They weren't here more than 20 minutes, but the computer from the front desk is missing and if you look in the back there were a lot of boxes in the last office and that's gone as well," Harris said.

CBS Atlanta News has learned that a man named Bobby Terence Blanks runs Everything Staffing.

Our investigation found that a man by the same name and who lives at Blank's address has a criminal record.

CBS Atlanta News showed Harris a mug shot of blanks and she confirmed it was the same man operating the staffing agency.

"You don't just come in and operate a business for a month or five weeks and totally disappear," Harris said.

Harris said Everything Staffing charges applicants a registration fee before placing them on a job.

After multiple visits to the business, CBS Atlanta News eventually spoke with Blanks and learned that his business operates by appointments only and they're not always in the office. That said, the agency is open for business.

Blanks also stated that he does occasionally charge applicants a registration fee, but that did not happen in this case involving the stranded workers.
