Cobb County Police warning residents about burglars

Posted: Updated:

Cobb County police are warning folks living along the Lower Rosswell Road in Marietta to lock their doors and close their garages.

This warning comes after thieves struck seven homes this week stealing all sorts of valuables.

In all the cases the homeowners were home during the crimes.

"We've been here about 12 years and we haven't had any problems in this neighborhood," crime victim Lynn Keenum said.

Lynn Keenum told CBS Atlanta Friday that all changed Monday morning when he heard the beep from his alarm system indicating that someone entered his home.

"About the time we heard the beep, beep then we see a flash light in the kitchen," Keenum said.

Startled Keenum sprung out of bed.

"The first thing I did was jump up and grab a gun," the grandfather said.

But Keenum could still see someone with a flashlight searching through his belongs.

"I actually yelled from my bedroom, What you doing in my home?" Keenum said.

But the angry question did no good.

This frightening robbery was possible because Keenum left his garage door open.

The thieves rambled through both cars stole a gun then boldly entered the house through an unlocked door snatched a laptop computer and ran off into the night.

"They are driving through neighborhoods looking for garages that are up once they are inside the plain view," Lt. Destiny Davidson told CBS Atlanta.

Lynn Keenum is counting his blessing that one was hurt.  He swears he will never leave his home unsecured again.
