CBS Atlanta News tracked down the owner of Everything Staffing on Friday to ask him about a group of construction workers that he set up with jobs that didn't exist.
"We do have an attorney and we do have a class action lawsuit against Black Sparta Construction LLC and other parties involved to figure out who Black Sparta had a contract with," Everything Staffing Owner Bobby Blanks said.
Blanks said Black Sparta LLC entered into an agreement with his agency to place several workers at a construction site in Columbia, MO.
When they arrived, there was no work and some were stranded with no money, and were not able to get home for days.
"Black Sparta will provide food, gas, lodging for all employees," Blanks said.
Blanks said his business also is a victim in this fiasco. Black Sparta LLC, owned by Ruben Jones, was once located in an extended stay hotel in Stone Mountain.
CBS Atlanta News asked Blanks if he knowingly took advantage of any of the workers and he said no, he hasn't made a dime on the deal.
"No sir, I'm the one. Listen for the camera to get it straight. I'm the one that called the churches, I donated food, I'm the one that got the class action lawsuit," Blanks said.
What Blanks didn't say up front is that he has a criminal record which includes a robbery charge.
"It was 2006 and I was at the wrong place at the wrong time in the car with somebody and that's what happened," Blanks said.
Blanks insists his past has nothing to do with this deal gone bad.
"I'm just trying to understand you, OK? You're trying to erase your past by doing good for others?" CBS Atlanta News reporter Adam Murphy asked.
"Exactly and that's why my passion was to open Everything Staffing," Blanks said.
Blanks said all of the stranded workers have returned home safely, and he, like everyone else, is trying to get answers from Ruben Jones with Black Sparta LLC.
