Store clerks in Buckhead are on high alert after a string of armed robberies that each appear to be the work of the same man.
"He kind of walks into the business very cool and calm," said Atlanta Police Sgt. P. Spann. "He approaches the cash register as if he's going to make a purchase, and at that time, he shows the weapon and he demands that the cashier place the money into a plastic bag."
Police believe the same man is responsible for as many as eight armed robberies in the Peachtree Road/Piedmont Road area of Buckhead. Each happened in the evening hours.
"He is very casual," said Spann. "He seems to have done this several times before. He's not nervous at all."
Detectives released surveillance video of some of the robberies. They show the man, his face exposed, as he approaches the clerk and reveals a gun in his waistband. During one robbery, he appears to talk casually on a cell phone as he waits for the clerk to put cash in a bag.
Police released details on four of the robberies.
The first incident happened on Jan. 1 at the CVS Pharmacy at 842 Peachtree Street NE.
The store employee said an armed man walked into the store and said, "Come on, don't you know this is a robbery? Gimme all that."
The man grabbed about $220 out of the register and took off.
The second robbery took place on Jan. 6. at a Walgreens pharmacy at 2893 Peachtree Road NE.
The suspect attempted to buy dog food, milk and sanitary napkins, but his prepaid card would not work.
According to a police report, he then pulled out a handgun and took about $400 from the register.
Another CVS Pharmacy robbery took place at 3221 Peachtree Road on Jan. 8.
The suspect walked in armed and told the cashier to put all the money in the bag. He then said, "Feliz Navidad" and took off in a white Ford van.
The fourth robbery took place on Jan. 18 at a Subway restaurant at 3145 Peachtree Road.
The manager said a man in a puffy jacket walked in and approached the counter with a gun.
"The guy just points the gun directly at me and tells me, ‘Don't move.'" said Shqwandra Moore, who was working in the restaurant at the time.
The suspect demanded cash and fled the area.
"He's hit multiple stores, and he's not going to stop until somebody actually gets hurt or he gets hurt," said Moore.
Anyone with information on these robberies is asked to contact Atlanta Police Commercial Robbery Investigators at 404-546-4255 or Crime Stoppers at 404-577-8477.
There is a reward in the case of up to $2,000.
