ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -

Thousands of customers are waking up without power Thursday as power crews scramble to restore service to as many areas as possible.

At the last update, at 11:15 a.m., Georgia Power reported less than 2,000 customers are without power. 1,500 are in metro Atlanta and 400+ are in NW Georgia.

In addition, the Georgia Electric Membership Corporation said their EMCs reported 16,539 outages around 10 p.m. Wednesday. That number has now been reduced to less than 5,000 in extreme north Georgia.
