Telvis Douglas is recovering at home after being shot at Price Middle School on Thursday.

Family friend and attorney Freddrell Green calls the wound 'nasty' and said the Douglas family has a lot of questions about what happened and how the alleged shooter got a gun.

"How did this take place? How is it that this young man was able to get a gun in what was supposed to be a secure environment, and it appears it was not," Green said.

Green saw the 14-year-old Friday morning. He said the eighth grader at Price Middle School was shot yesterday while going from lunch to his next class.

"At the time he began to run, as all other students in the area ran at the time when the weapon was brandished. It appears there were multiple shots that he only heard, and there were multiple random targets for those shots," Green said.

Green said a bullet hit Telvis in the back of the head, just above the neck.

"It seems to have been what some would characterize as a flesh wound, meaning the bullet entered the back of his head and exited," Green said.

Green said Telvis is coping well with what happened, but admits the teen is scared.

"I think emotionally, he's frightened. I think he has some fears with respect to the prospect of returning to this school environment," Green said.

Green calls Telvis the victim of a larger issue regarding gun violence.

"We're dealing with a situation, an epidemic if you will, that demands immediate and decisive action on the part of the powers that be. Whether that be the Legislature on the state and local level, or police enforcement to ensure our future, our children, are safe in public school settings," Green said.

Telvis told Green he knew the shooter from school but doesn't associate with him.

Green plans to conduct his own independent investigation into the shooting.
