Dog runs for cover as tree falls on house

ATLANTA (CBS46) -

A massive tree fell forcing two families to find a place to live.

The tree fell onto a duplex at Johnson Road and Lenox Avenue in northeast Atlanta.

Luckily no one was inside the home when the huge tree fell.

Charlie the dog was home alone in one of the units.

His owner Lauren Woodhall was worried that he had to go through it alone.

"He's scared of a piece of paper in the wind. So, I'm sure this terrified him," Woodhall said.

The Atlanta Fire Fighters who helped pull the 6-year-old wheaten terrier to safety told CBS Atlanta News he knew exactly where to run for cover.

They found him huddled in the bathtub.

"He hates the bathtub. He hates taking a bath. I guess that felt like the safest place at the time," Woodhall said.

The power of the tree falling pushed support beams up against the front of the home, and it lifted part of a concrete driveway and took down several wires near the back of the home.

Lt. Joseph Harris said neither unit is safe to live in.

"The building received a lot of structural damage," Harris said.

The tenets were allowed to gather some of their personal items.

"I'm just glad no one was hurt. My dog is OK," Woodhall said.

Both of the tenants will have to stay with family and friends for now.

It's unclear if the landlord will try to make repairs or tear down the structure.
