Trial under way for trio accused of sexually abusing children

Posted: Updated:

The trial against three people accused of repeatedly molesting three children over the course of several years is under way.

Thomas Johnson, 45, his sister, Maryland Johnson, 46, and her daughter Crystal Johnson, 32, are each charged in a 34-count indictment which includes charges of child molestation, sexual battery, aggravated sodomy, rape and pimping.

Authorities said the trio abused three children during a five-year span from 2004 through 2009.

When the abuse started, police said the children ranged in age from 2 to 4.

According to the Fulton County District Attorney's Office, the children were molested, forced to perform sexual acts on the accused and two of the children were allegedly prostituted.

Years after the abuse, police interviews with the children revealed the on-going abuse.

The Johnsons were indicted in 2011 following an investigation. The trial is expected to last two weeks.
