Morehouse College shooting suspect misses appearance on drug charge

Posted: Updated:

The suspect in a college campus shooting missed his hearing in an unrelated drug case on Wednesday because he was sitting in jail.

Police charged Amir T. Obafemi, 21, who is a Clark Atlanta student, in the Friday evening shooting of Morehouse College student Cornelius Savage. Police said the shooting happened in front of Samuel A. Archer Hall over an argument about a basketball game.

Savage suffered injuries to his forearm.

Obafemi was due in a Douglas County courtroom Wednesday morning, scheduled to enter a guilty plea for selling marijuana at Douglas County High School, according to court records.

Those records also stated that Obafemi was supposed to get a suspended prison sentence, as long as he attended college and graduated.

Obafemi couldn't show up for court because he was lodged in the Fulton County Jail for the shooting charge. A judge denied him bond in that case on Monday.

Akil Secret, of The Secret Firm, P.C., represents Obafemi.

"When it is all said and done, the evidence will show that Mr. Obafemi acted in self defense," said the firm in a statement.

Obafemi is the son of Atlanta music mogul Chaka Zulu Obafemi, who is the co-founder of Disturbing Tha Peace Records. He's also Ludacris' manager.
