Marine on long journey home stuck in Atlanta because of weather

Posted: Updated:

The winter weather in the northeast is causing problems from travelers across the country and at Hartsfield Jackson International Airport.

One Marine will get home at least a day later than expected. Aubrey Vizcarrando waited patiently to hear when he'll make it to New York.

"I'm on my way home to my family and my flight got delayed," Vizcarrando said.

His flight wasn't just delayed, it was canceled.

"Adapt and overcome, hurry up and wait. That's what the military teaches us," Vizcarrando said.

The infantry machinegunner deployed to Afghanistan 34 months ago. He spent the last six months at a hospital in Germany, recovering after being shot.

"Being so close to home it's real tough. You wish you could get those extra miles, but you can't. So right now we're just trying to figure out what to do," Vizcarrando said.

What makes being stuck in Atlanta a little sweeter is his girlfriend is by his side. She flew here to welcome him back to the States.

"It's been a long time since I've seen him. It's been three years, so I'm glad to see him," Quaniesha Wilbur said.

They plan to make the most of their time in Atlanta's airport, and hope they get home this weekend.

"Hopefully, if God blesses us, we'll get out of here in the morning, but it's up to Him," Vizcarrando said.
