Travelers slowly start being able to fly out

ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -

With nearly 100 flights canceled out of Hartsfield Jackson International Airport on Friday, and nearly 50 more on Saturday, passengers are relieved to slowly start being able to fly out of Atlanta.

Mark Town, of Ontario, was headed back from a beach vacation and was taken by surprise.

"We knew there was a storm - I had no idea it was this big," Town said. "We're coming home from Cancun. We left our resort yesterday around 12:30 p.m., got to the Cancun airport, we checked in, got our boarding passes for both flights, not knowing, by the time we checked in that our flight from here to Buffalo was already canceled."

But his airline, Delta, did not leave him empty-handed.

"They gave us a voucher for a hotel, they gave us these T-shirts, some toothpaste and toothbrushes and we're just putting in time," Town said.

He and his wife are flying standby - something passenger Houri Shaba also faces.

"We had two choices, for today and tomorrow," Shaba said. "We chose today and I hope it's not going to get canceled again."

When these passengers do finally make it home, they'll have another hurdle to overcome.

"I'm expecting to have like 50 centimeters of snow on my car!" Shaba said.
