Good Samaritan tracks down alleged package thieves

Posted: Updated:

Sarah York said she was at work and her two children were at home with the babysitter when two men allegedly tried to steal a package on her porch.

The men obviously didn't realize that York's next-door neighbor was watching their every move.

"I am thankful for my neighbor Trey that he saw it happened and followed the car and got the license plate number," York said.  "Trey is wonderful, and it really does give me a good sense of community that he is watching out for the neighborhood."

Police tracked the green Ford F-150 to a home in Lawrenceville using the license plate number given to them by the next door neighbor.

York said she is grateful her neighbor was watching out for her home but is making sure her children are taking more security precautions from this point on.

"I have told my kids, and we have talked about making sure the doors are locked," York said.   "We don't feel safe now."

The suspected thieves dumped the package behind a business at 2850 Hog Mountain Rd. and drove away. The stolen package was recovered and given back to York. She said it had about $100 worth of marketing materials sent from her work place inside.

The theft was on Monday Feb. 4. Gwinnett County Police have not made any arrests in this case.
