Henry County Fire Department to begin servicing fire hydrants

Posted: Updated:
HENRY COUNTY, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -

Henry County Firefighters will begin servicing fire hydrants March 1, 2013.  Hydrant inspection and maintenance is performed bi-annually in March and September.

A typical maintenance cycle lasts approximately two to three months.  Hydrant maintenance is critical to fire suppression and the protection of life and property.

If an out-of-service hydrant is identified when water supply is needed, significant delays are possible and could contribute to loss of life and/or property.

Inspecting hydrants bi-annually reduces the chance of fire suppression delay due to no water supply.

If you see a fire truck in your area during one of the inspection months and the firefighters are working with the hydrants, you could experience a change in your water clarity.  If you notice that your water is not as clear as normal, simply run your water until it runs clear before washing clothes to prevent staining light colored clothing.

If your water does not clear up, please call 770-288-6600.  Hydrants are currently serviced Monday thru Friday during the hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
