A former NFL wide receiver is preparing to serve and protect the city of Atlanta as a new police officer.
Officer Dudley Guice had enjoyed a brief but promising career with the Indianapolis Colts before suffering a career-ending knee injury.
Now Guice is living out his second dream of being a cop.
"As a little kid growing up, it's something that I always wanted to do," Guice said.
While professional football and police work are worlds apart, Guice told CBS Atlanta Tuesday they are similar in many ways.
"The comradery, the physical, the training, the mental aspects. It's some many different things that come into play just to put on that uniform," Guice said.
Just like in professional football, Guice believes that officers must have thick skin and the ability to focus under pressure.
"You want to brush off the small things and take care of the simple things if that makes sense," Guice said.
Guice, who's from Natchez, MS, loves Atlanta, its culture and its people, but the rookie also knows being cop is a challenge.
