New restaurant raises money for Tripp Halstead

ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -

A restaurant in Sandy Spring on Roswell Road is celebrating a grand opening and raising money for Tripp Halstead.

All profits from Moderna's grand opening will benefit Tripp and his family to help pay for medical bills and to keep his mother bedside during his long recovery.

Tripp was critically injured when a large tree branch fell onto his head Oct. 29, 2012 while at his Winder day care.

Christine Albright, who is connected to Moderna, has followed Tripp's recovery. That's how the fundraiser began.

"They are continuing to be positive no matter what and they've uplifted so many people and they affect so many peoples lives and it feels like extended family to us," Albright said.

The benefit kicked off at 11 a.m. and will last until 2 a.m. Saturday.

There will be a board for people to sign for Tripp when they come in the restaurant.
