FAYETTEVILLE, GA (CBS46) -

Parents and school board members in Fayette County met Monday night to find ways to close a $15 million budget shortfall.

One of the ideas on the table is to close some schools.

During a public hearing at the Sams Auditorium in Fayetteville, parents voiced their opposition.

"If you are listening to us, we have spoken clear and loud, do not close our schools. There is no substitute for excellent education," said one parent.

School Board Chairman Marion Key said, "We would be very disappointed if they were not supportive of their schools. We have very supportive parents in the county and they support their schools."

Key also said most parents in the county agree with the idea.

The board will make a final decision on March 4 at 7 p.m.
