Coworkers and friends turned out in big numbers to support a young man recently paralyzed.

The Bring Zack Back event kicked off at 7 p.m. at Park Tavern restaurant on 10th Street Northeast in Atlanta to raise money for 28-year-old Zack Poss.

Poss worked at the restaurant up until last September.

The Walton High School and Kennesaw State University graduate was diagnosed with a mass on his brain stem and spinal cord on Sept. 11.

Three days later, he underwent a 14-hour surgery to remove part of the tumor.

It left him paralyzed from the neck down for about two months.

Now Poss has almost all of his movement back.

"My whole left side started to work, then my right side," said Poss.

The fundraising event, which included an auction and a cover charge, is one way restaurant manager Ouzin Diagne said co-workers are helping with his continued success.

"Zack is a good employee with us. Things happen and we just want to show our support," said Diagne.

"There's been a line of people coming to me. People I haven't seen in 10 or 15 years, and people I've never even known before, so it's pretty awesome," said Poss.

Poss' roommate and a former classmate are in the band that played.

Among the crowd was Poss' physical therapist who's not surprised that he's has come so far.

"He comes in and he's ready to work. He's like, ‘What's next? What can we do now?'" said Lauren Nieves.

Nearly 200 people showed up to offer their support. Poss said the support has helped to keep him motivated.

"A couple of months ago I would have told you something different. But now I'm pretty dead set on getting back to normal. I see the possibility, so I just got to try to run with it," said Poss.

Some of the mass has returned.

Poss is currently undergoing radiation treatment for that.

He's still hoping to move forward with his next step of learning how to walk again.
