Chipper Jones awarded Lifetime Achievement Award

ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -

It was a star-studded night at the Fox Theater Tuesday for the Eighth Annual Atlanta Sports Awards.

"This type of event is something that brings the focus on all the great things that we have with respect to sports on the field, off the field," said Dan Corso, the executive director of the Atlanta Sports Council.

On a night when metro Atlanta's brightest high school, college and pro stars were honored, Chipper Jones stood tallest. The former Atlanta Brave received a standing ovation as he accepted the Lifetime Achievement Award.

"It is very humbling and nice to know that 19 years in the big leagues has not gone unnoticed. It is nice to just hang out with some of my contemporaries, guys on the Atlanta Hawks and Falcons and seeing the next generation of young players come up," said Jones.

Jones is a fan favorite, the heart and soul of so many great Braves teams over the years and a likely hall of famer. But to the disappointment of many, for the first time in nearly 20 years, Jones won't be suiting up for the Braves this year. He said it's time.

"I got four boys at home so I am going to spend an incredible amount of time with them. All of them are under the age of 15. I am going to try to shave a couple strokes off my golf game and do a little hunting on the side," said Jones.
