Georgia Dome undergoes transformation for NCAA Final Four

ATLANTA, GA (CBS46) -

Only 30 more days to go until Atlanta hosts the Final Four.

Crews are hard at work transforming the Georgia Dome to get ready for the Big Dance.

Crews took out 8,000 seats and they're putting risers in. Seats will be put on the risers and will help get fans closer to the action and allow for more seats and spectators to fill up the Dome during the Final Four.

Adam Straight, director of facility operations with the Georgia Dome, said  the plan took 15 months.

"The seating riser structure will create about 18,349 seats. To put that in perspective, I think Phillips Arena holds 18,300 seats, so we're essentially putting in a basketball arena inside the stadium," Straight said.

Once the makeover is complete, the dome will hold 74,000 people.

The Final Four court will go in at the end of the month.
