Teen involved in standoff after stealing East Point cop car in custody

Posted: Updated:
EAST POINT, GA (CBS46) -

A teenage boy is in custody after a standoff with police in southwest Atlanta.

It all started Wednesday morning when East Point police officers tried to pull over a car in which the teen was riding, and the driver of that car lead police on a high-speed chase.

The car eventually crashed near Lee Street and Astor Avenue and officers were able to get the teen into the back of a police car after tasing him.

However, the teen was somehow able to get out of the back of the squad car and into the front seat. He then drove the car away.

Police officers later found the stolen squad car at Chicamauga Avenue and Mozley Place and tracked the teen to Gideon Drive in Atlanta, where he barricaded himself in his home.

It's unknown if the teen was armed. Police said that the teen's mother was in contact with him.
