Falcons agree to a 3-year contract with Steven Jackson

Posted: Updated:

The Atlanta Falcons have agreed to a three-year contract with running back Steven Jackson.

Jackson is one of just 14 running backs in NFL history to total 10,000 rushing yards and 3,000 receiving yards.

Jackson, 6'2", 240 pounds, was originally selected by the St. Louis Rams in the first round of the 2004 NFL Draft. He rushed for 1,042 yards with four touchdowns in 2012, giving him eight straight seasons with more than 1,000 rushing yards.

A two-time All-Pro selection, Jackson is the NFL's leading rusher among active players with 10,135 yards. He is the only active player with more than 10,000 career yards and the 27th player in NFL history to achieve that milestone.

Entering his 10th NFL season, Jackson earned Pro Bowl selections in 2007, 2010 and 2011 and his streak of eight straight 1,000-yard seasons is the longest active streak in the League. He broke RB Eric Dickerson's Rams franchise record for career rushing yards in 2010 and his 56 career rushing touchdowns ranked tied for second in club history with Dickerson.

Since becoming a full-time starter with the Rams in 2005, Jackson snagged 388 receptions for 3,135 receiving yards. During that time, Jackson leads all NFL running backs in receptions and receiving yards.

The terms of the contract were not disclosed.
