Police search for others victimized by alleged serial rapist
NORCROSS, GA (CBS46) -
Norcross police have already arrested a man who they believe is a serial rapist. Now, they're looking for other victims to come forward and make the case against him stronger.
The man, who police asked us not to identify to help them find other victims and rule out false accusations, was arrested in early March. Billy Grogan, with Norcross police, said officials charged him with aggravated rape and sodomy after a woman came forward.
"She met this man at a bar in Atlanta and they exchanged phone numbers," Grogan said.
Grogan said the man invited the woman a week later to the Guest Inn on Peachtree Industrial Boulevard, where he raped her for several hours. After investigating, Grogan said officers believe there may be other victims.
"Possibly he did this exact same thing to another female at the same hotel," Grogan said.
He said that man may have even raped another woman in the exact same room.
The news concerns Shaniqua Sykes who is also staying in the $35-a-night hotel.
"I've been here for a few weeks, and I've been going out by myself and I just never expect it," Sykes said. "I go out and I don't expect someone to be out there that's going to do something."
Sykes, like police, hopes the other victim comes forward.
"I definitely feel like she shouldn't be scared and afraid to come out and speak her mind about something that shouldn't have happened in the first place, no one is allowed to take something from you unless you give it to them," Sykes said.
If you think you may be a victim related to this case, call Norcross police at 770-448-2111.
