COBB COUNTY, GA (CBS46) -

Investigators in Cobb County are trying to identify victims who may have been involved in a child pornography case.

Cobb County police arrested Michael William Cook, 17, after he allegedly distributed child porn on a website.

Detectives said Cook did not take the pictures, instead he stole them from the girl's social media sites. Police said they were nude or sexual photos the girls thought were private.

"Just to say he was able to gain access by a computer program to break the code or password to gain access to the person's account. It should be enough to scare anybody," said Sgt. Dana Pierce with the Cobb County Police Department.

Officers said Cook also operated under the fake business name of Maxi Focus Photography. He would contact girls saying he was interested in working with them.

So far, officers have identified eight victims. They said Cook targeted girls he went to school with at Harrison High School in Kennesaw. They also expanded their investigation saying girls at other high schools in North Cobb and Southern Cherokee counties were victims. Police said they are even looking outside the schools too.

"A lot of these victims he knew or they were friends of friends he knew," said Pierce.

Cook was charged with one count of distribution of child pornography, and eight counts of cruelty to children. A judge ordered him held without bond.

Officers said the incidents occurred during Nov. 1, 2012 through Jan. 1, 2013. They said Cook committed the acts from his home computer.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Cobb County Police Department's Crimes Against Children's Unit at 770-801-3470.
