Winder Police search for thief posing as maintenance worker

Posted: Updated:

Winder police need help identifying a man they say poses as a maintenance worker to rip off people. A surveillance picture shows the man suspected of stealing ladies wallets.

Police received calls of three thefts at different commercial businesses on Tuesday. All the incidents were said to have happened between noon and 4 p.m.

Victims at each of the businesses all gave similar descriptions of a man that entered the locations claiming to be someone sent by the building owner to perform services such as carpet cleaning and pest control. The man was given access to office areas of the businesses after telling employees that he needed to inspect the area for the work he was going to perform. Employees, who were out of their offices, discovered their wallets missing from purses and desks shortly after the man left the buildings.

The man is possibly occupying a late '80s or early '90s model four-door Buick passenger car. The color of the car has been described as light blue or gray.

Anyone with information as to the identity of this man is asked to contact Detective Rikki Banks of the Winder Police Department at 770-867-2156.
