Driver of SUV causes two accidents in Midtown, three people arrested

ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -

Seven people were taken to the hospital after two accidents involving seven vehicles closed several streets in Midtown.

Investigators said a male driver driving a red SUV exited The Varsity's parking lot onto Spring Street and struck an AFR car, pushing it into a white SUV.

The white SUV then flipped onto its side near the intersection of Spring Street and Ponce De Leon Avenue.

The driver of the red SUV sped off from that accident, heading south on Spring Street towards downtown and hit four more vehicles in the intersection of Spring Street and North Avenue, according to police.

Officers said the driver, a female passenger and a male passenger ditched the red SUV after the crashes, but were arrested a few moments later.

Officers said one of the men had a gunshot wound to his hand. Police identify those arrested as LaQuan Johnson, Deontray Bellman and Brandi Jackson.

All three are charged with armed robbery while Johnson and Jackson face additional charges of aggravated assault. Of the three, Bellman is the only one who has not been booked into the Fulton County jail as of Saturday night. The Atlanta Police Department would not confirm if Bellman was hospitalized.

In all, eight people, including two children, were injured between the two accidents.

Several streets were blocked because of the accidents, including Spring Street between Third Street and North Avenue, Ponce de Leon Avenue between Spring Street and West Peachtree Street, and North Avenue between Spring Street and West Peachtree Street.
