Fundraiser to be held for Emily Bowman

Posted: Updated:

The owners of Envision Health Studio in Woodstock plan to hold a fundraiser for Emily Bowman on Saturday.

The fundraiser will have T-shirts, bows, and other items for sale that will all go towards Bowman's recovery.

Laura Mikszan and her husband Greg Mikszan have watched Bowman grow up, from middle school through high school and college.

"We are just praying she has a full recovery," Laura Mikszan said. "I just saw her last month, her story has really inspired and touched the community to help. Emily loved to help others and this is something she would have been inspired to be a part of, now she is inspiring others."

Bowman is showing signs of improvement after she was hit by a truck in Athens on Feb. 16.

The driver of that truck, William Wilson Heaton, faces several charges including DUI and hit-and-run.

Police say Heaton was driving a red truck when he hit and critically injured Bowman last month while she walked along Oak Street in Athens.

The fundraiser will be at 101 Victoria North Court in Woodstock at Envision Health Studio from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

It is being called "Burpees for Bowman," and the most burpees someone does in a minute will add to the donations. A burpee is a type of exercise similar to an "up, down," working all muscles in your body.
