ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -

Hundreds of young people learned more about the history of hip-pop on Saturday.

They attended the Boys and Girls Clubs of Americas 46th Annual Keystone Conference in Atlanta at the Hyatt Regency.

They got a history lesson from hip-hop pioneers Doug E. Fresh, DJ Spinderella of Salt-n-Pepa and Darryl "DMC" McDaniels of Run DMC.

"The thing that makes hip-hop great is, it wasn't the record companies, it wasn't the lawyers, it wasn't the managers, it wasn't the executives. It was the young people that created hip-hop and changed the world," said DMC.

The Keystone Conference is one of the largest youth leadership conferences in the country.

More than 1,800 teens took part in the event.
