Child in double fatal wreck comes home from hospital

Posted: Updated:

One of the young children who was in a car when it was hit by a man being pursued by police has been released from the hospital.

The boy's grandmother, 57-year-old Alicia Moxley, and cousin, 3-year-old Jordan Haynes, were killed in the Wednesday crash. One other passenger in the car, a teen, is expected to be released Monday.

At a Sunday night vigil, Moxley's brother D'Angelo Rouse, said the community will support the grieving family members.

"There's more than one fighting this battle," Rouse said. "There's a whole gang of us."

Haynes mother, O'Sun McCound, said she takes comfort in knowing that the two are in the family members' hearts.

"We know they love us and they're watching us," McCound said, tearfully.

Haynes' aunt, Zakyia Davis, said she is devastated by the girl's death.

"I couldn't wait to see her grow up - that's been cut short and that's not going to happen," Davis said. "I am happy I was able to have her for the time I had her."

Jeremiah Warthen, 27, was charged in connection with the crash. He faces charges including felony hit-and-run, reckless driving and cocaine possession.

If you'd like to donate to the family's memorial fund, you can do so by visiting any Wells Fargo branch and donating to the Moxley-Haynes Fund.
